At the 2025 WOO Worlds, Su Kay, co-owner and chief kite designer of Lacuna Kites, set a personal record with a 25.2   m jump, earning 1st place in the Women’s Highest Jump discipline and securing 3rd all-time on WOO for women—an extraordinary achievement at 49 years old. In an awe-inspiring moment at the 2025 WOO Worlds, Su Kay, co-owner and kite designer at Lacuna Kites, smashed her personal record with a 25.2   m boost, landing her in 1st place for the competition and 3rd all-time on WOO. Su and her partner David “DK” Kay officially took over Lacuna Kites on December 1, 2022, assuming design, manufacturing, and distribution roles. She is the only female kite designer in the kitesurf industry, and she serves as Lacuna’s chief kite designer. Her background in the industry is broad, giving her a deep understanding of what is needed on all levels, as well as hands- on knowledge of how to adjust how kites feel, fly, and perform for different market segments. The WOO Worlds is an annual global kite and wing competition organized by WOO Sports, where riders compete across multiple disciplines over a defined window. The Kite Highest Jump discipline is especially iconic: the single biggest jump counts. All jumps are measured using a WOO 4.0 sensor mounted to the rider’s board, and the competition runs over four weeks, giving riders time to chase optimal wind conditions and push their limits. The Women’s Highest Jump discipline had never seen a jump over 25   m since the inception of the competition—until now. “I was lucky that it was Heritage Day here in South Africa, so the water cleared out as everyone left to go braai (South African BBQ) and the wind decided to pick up to over 30 knots for a half an hour window… I had 3 banger jumps in a row: 25.1   m, 19   m, and 25.2   m!
